Clean Up Cave Creek

A Sonoran Truth Editorial, March 11, 2016.

Cave Creek is a corrupt town. It’s management is dictated by Don Sorchcyh. Do what Don says and keep your job or your office. If you don’t, you will be villified in his rag, the Town’s Official Newspaper.

Don uses fear to control his allies and his enemies. Concerned Cave Creek citizens who want open, ethical government are deemed by Don to be “The Dark Side.” Don is nuts, a wacko, but it works because most people want to be left alone. Bad Press always leaves a residue… Don is a liar. He doesn’t even care if its the truth. He’s no better than LBJ.

The race was close and Johnson was getting worried.  Finally he told his campaign manager to start a massive rumor campaign about his opponent’s life-long habit of enjoying carnal knowledge of his own barnyard sows.

“Christ, we can’t get a way calling him a pig-f*cker,” the campaign manager protested.  “Nobody’s going to believe a thing like that.”

“I know,” Johnson replied.  “But let’s make the sonofabitch deny it.”

Hunter S. Thompson’s Fear & Loathing: On The Campaign Trail ’72.

Currently, there is a big issue about the bike lanes, and tearing up the beauty of Cave Creek. Don is blaming this on the “our” previous council, but the reality is it was Donny’s boyz who did this. Previous council members now have to deny it, raising that residue of suspicion. Bike lanes are a positive benefit to the community IF Cave Creek is to be an integrated, egalitarian suburb of Phoenix. If it’s the last frontier of the Wild West, then no. The timing sucks but tearing up a median and then replanting it with cactus and trees may make it prettier than it was before.

A further reality check indicates that there is no zoning ordinance, no subdivision ordinance, no general plan. Think Wal Mart. Think Ian Cordwell. Whatever the Junta wants, the Junta gets. Creekers have the illusion of ownership of their property and entitlements. If you have any doubt, ask Jerry Freeman. Freeman has spent over a decade and hundreds of thousands of dollars defending his property rights against Sorchych and his minions.

Unfortunately, we are the Rebel alliance and we are factionalized. Candidates who may want to run against the incumbent council and Mayor and so fearful of being called a Slate, that they will once again, snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory. Until ethical Creekers align around an agenda of core values that become our “brand,” Don wins.

All the rest is just whining.

Subject: PROPERTY TAX ON THE HORIZON?

All,

This notice is on the town web-site.

“Financial Advisory Services RFP

The Town of Cave Creek is currently seeking proposals for the provision of Financial Advisory Services to provide municipal financial advisory services to evaluate the current and prospective financial needs of the Town, its current debt, and suggest alternatives and make recommendations that may affect the composition of debt and its terms. Clarification of the RFP statement regarding “owned by any bank or financial institution”, no entity will be precluded solely on the issue of bank or financial institution ownership or affiliation. However, the related bank or financial institution would be precluded from benefitting from any other related transactions planned or originating from the Financial Advisory services received from the Financial Advisor. “

Can this be a property tax coming to pay for the bonds?

Editors,

Your readers may like to know……

As a result of the Town being torn up by the Bike Lane Project, there is now a search for those responsible for the destruction of the medians and roadway.

And of course there are those who point to the “good” Council in 2013 as the culprits.

That the project was first discussed in 2011 seems to have selectively faded from memory of those who seek to blame the 2013 “good” council.

The fact that Town Council (Francia, McGuire, Bunch)  voted in 2012 to approve amending the Town Core Plan to include bike lanes seems to be swept under the rug by the same detractors.

Here are some current facts:

On August 19, 2013, consent agenda items 12 & 13, called for the town entering into two inter-governmental agreements; one with the Arizona DOT for design of a bike lane on Cave Creek road from Carefree Highway to Pima Road, the second one was with the Town of Carefree to obtain a federal grant to fund the preparation of construction documents for bike lanes.

Specifically consent agenda item 12 reads in part:

  Resolution 2013-10:

  1. Scope of Work
  2. The Town Will:
  3. review design plans, specifications and other such documents and services, including scoping/design plans & documents required by FHWA to qualify projects for and to receive federal funds.

Provide design review comments to the state as appropriate.

Specifically consent agenda item 13 reads in part:

  Resolution 2013-11:

“Resolution 2013-11 authorizing the Mayor to approve the intergovernmental agreement (IGA) between the town of Cave Creek and the town of Carefree relating to a federal grant to fund the preparation of construction documents for bike lanes located in the

        Towns”……..

I approved (as did Council 7-0) both the “concept” of the Bike Lane Project and the funding of the “design” of the project knowing the Town in accordance with Resolution 2013-10 would review the final plans.

At the March 16, 2015,  Council ( Lipsky, McGuire, Bunch, Clancy ) approved Resolution 2015-08 at which time they had the opportunity to review the final plans before approving the IGA. No comments were made as to the design of the project.

At a special meeting on August 24, 2015 Council (Lipsky, McGuire, Bunch, Clancy ) approved an additional funding of  $50, 630 for the project, at which time they had the opportunity to review the final plans. No comments were made as to the design of the project.

Let’s hope that something can be done to restore our town to its previous historic beauty and character.

Cave Creek

Agenda Item #1 on Tuesday night’s Council Meeting at 7:00 pm is to address the zoning code violations at 41355 N Fleming Springs/Echo Canyon, otherwise known as the auto repair shop hidden by the 8′ berm. That 8′ berm had a permit issued for it the first time by the town planning dept, then extended, (believe it or not), and then a SECOND permit was issued by the town for another berm, or extension thereof, resulting in even more extensive desert destruction.  So much for keeping within the ‘building envelope’ — which is documented in the property layout of the 1st permit!  How much more can the town shove down our throat?

Please attend Tuesday night, we need to pack the room so this doesn’t happen all over Cave Creek….because if the General Plan passes as it reads now, our backyards are toast.

Agenda Item #1 Reads:

COUNCIL DISCUSSION AND DIRECTION TO THE TOWN MANAGER AND TOWN ATTORNEY REGARDING THE PROPERTY LOCATED AT 41344 N. FLEMING SPRINGS ROAD IN THE TOWN OF CAVE CREEK.
Public CommentCouncil Action Needed:  Motion to direct the Town Manager and Town Attorney to address the on-going neighborhood concerns with respect to the property located at 41344 N. Fleming Springs Road in the Town of Cave Creek.

As you may surmise, this situation – created by the Town – and exacerbated by the Town needs to be corrected by the town and the property restored to it’s former status, in conformance with zoning ordinances.
