Cave Creek Against Sorchych

A Sonoran Truth Editorial, February 14, 2015.

The Desert Foothills Chronicle says it best. Great work Sara. Newsbulletin Issue 6 2-13-15

We are reprinting Councilman Reg Monachino’s Letter to the Editor of the Chronicle because it is so poignant.

THE BEAT GOES ON….BUT WHERE’S THE BEEF?

The Sonoran News has beaten the recall drum week after week after week ad nauseam. In fact the editor, Don Sorchych called for a recall even before I was elected. He knew the winds of change were blowing against him. Citizens were fed up with the issues of Property Tax, Enchanted Canyon, Area 25, and Morning Star. It was a Council that put the town $62 million in debt. It was a council that allowed a water tank to be built on land the town did not own, costing the citizens $1.2 million. It was a Council that turned a blind eye towards gross mismanagement of the town’s affairs.

With the largest turnout in the town’s history, the previous Council’s policies were repudiated. Four of the council members received such a low total of votes in the primary that they quit the general election. Esser attempted to retract his withdrawal but a Superior Court Judge said he could not quit and then decide to come back.

Despite rejection by the citizens, Don continues the drumbeat. Each week he has a guest editorial or letter to the editor by his camp followers in addition to his own tirade.   They fulminate about the current Council’s this or that but you have to ask “where’s the beef?” Where are the suggestions, the alternatives, or a better way to do things? There are personal attacks by the barrel full. No solutions though. Criticism galore, but no plan. No meat on the bones.

And therein lay the seeds for the downfall of the recall.

A reasonable person would ask “why do they have no plans”? Maybe it’s because the Sonoran News slate seldom if ever involve themselves in town business. For the last 18 months they are rarely if ever in attendance at Water Advisory Committee meetings, Planning Commission meetings or even a Town Council meeting. They do not attend the Mayor’s weekly office hours. Instead of being part of the solution, they hope to hoodwink the voters with a constant barrage of rhetoric.

The voters will conclude that “NO” is not a platform. A candidate without an agenda or platform does not merit election.

The voters will ask “where’s the beef”?
