Transparency vs. Sorchych Turbidity

A Sonoran Truth Guest Editorial by G C Freeman, August 8, 2013

The master of half-truths and misinformation, Don Sorchych, disconnectedly rambles on in his August 7th Sonoran News Editorial.  It’s simply loaded with so many half-truths, misinformation and self-aggrandizement, that I hardly know where to start. He’s given us so much misinformation to rebut and set straight, it’s like a Christmas present.

The ever reasonable and affable Mr. Sorchych now complains that he should be in every meeting called about anything.  The latest demand is about his involvement in a Restraining Order the Town must comply with.

He doesn’t have a right to be in any private meeting. He’s a party to the suit because of his past antics when he and his attorney fraudulently gifted land on these same easements to the Town.  There is no ruling and there is no hearing set so he isn’t needed.  Rulings that might be made will be applied to him because of his past efforts to evade court rulings when it doesn’t look good for him.

You will remember that his attorney is still on probation after being found in violation of the Bar Assn. Ethics Committee of the Supreme Court of Arizona by an 8-0 vote.  Why is this?  Because they fraudulently ‘gifted’ one of these same easements to the Town of Creek and they both ‘forgot’ to tell the court. All this is in court documents. So much for Sorchych’s transparency.

After years of trying to get every prosecutor known to man to prosecute someone for something Sorchych wants, he now finds the doors closed.  How many times does it take yelling ‘WOLF!’ before people become weary of hearing it?

Since his friend Usama is gone, he no longer is privy to all that happens at Town Hall.  Mustering up all of his personal charm (that of a mad rhesus monkey) he absurdly calls Phil Haldiman of the Az. Republic a “stooge” for Trenk.  No wonder Mr. Haldiman prefers to talk to Adam.  Maybe Haldiman should offer Don a banana as an inducement to talk to him.

Then Sorchych has the gall to ask for private information from Vice Mayor Trenk’s managing partner.  No wonder the Attorney General told him to take a hike.

But he does bring up one good point:  Why is the Town pressing to make a ‘horse trail’ on Mark Stapp’s Cahava Springs property? His attorney has told us he will go along with whatever the Town wants.

The Town is pushing for this trail.  Why?  They won’t even tell me where it’s planned to go from Cahava Property.  Maybe it’s because it connects to the next Cahava Springs property and as a 20 FOOT WIDE horse trail, it is so wide it could be used as a road. Imagine that, a road to Cahava Springs from Morning Star!

But here is the most interesting point of all:  Mr. Stapp told me flat out that he doesn’t care where the ‘horse trail’ goes! He even refused to view the actual property for the trail. He gave me the distinct impression he doesn’t even care if there is a ‘horse trail’.

So, why is the Town spending money for repeated land surveys, cultural survey and Geotechnical surveys, all of which come with multi thousand dollar price tags?

It’s a good question but I can’t get a straight answer from Mr. Glassman.  Maybe you can. Call and ask him. Better yet, ask him why he is continuing to spend money on this ill-conceived project with (huge outlays) for an undisclosed objective.

Then Sorchych segues with turbidity about the honorable Gilbert Lopez suing him for calling Mr. Lopez a ‘proven liar’.

Cave Creek is not a big city.  Gilbert is a well-known and respected former councilman and Vice Mayor.  What many don’t know is that Mr. Lopez volunteered for the service during the Korean War and flew the latest and best fighter aircraft of that era. Fighters like the F-104 Starfighter….a Mach II aircraft.

After 23 years of active Air Force and Air National Guard service, Mr. Lopez retired as a Lt. Colonel.  For 30 years he was an airline Captain, retiring in 1993.  That not being enough service to his fellow man, he ran for and was elected to the Cave Creek Town Council where he was elected Vice Mayor by his peers.  He served the Town of Cave Creek for 10 years. And there is a lot more he’s done in civic responsibility…too much to go into here.  Suffice it to say, a more honorable, patriotic and altruistic man could not be found. But the ever generous and respectful Mr. Sorchych paints Mr. Lopez in a false light.  And that’s why Lopez filed the suit.

Sorchych will be hard pressed to come away from this suit with a win, in my opinion. I’d say Don’s luck has completely dried out. Get ready to pay, Don!

Then, like always, he begins to excoriate and denigrate me for problems of his own making.  He fails to mention he was convicted in civil court for Tortious Interference.  His lawyer looked me and my attorney straight in the eye and said “Don can’t pay this judgment ($2,192.00).  He spent all his money on his newspaper.”  Then Sorchych said in his own newspaper that he didn’t ‘owe anything’ but if he did he would pay it. He didn’t until I put liens on his house. He paid all right… with interest too.

Next, he spins the equitable contribution suit. Despite telling me he would participate in maintenance of the shared driveway, he refused at every opportunity and continued to do so for the next 8 years.  During that time he never paid a cent despite taking the case all the way to the Arizona Supreme Court.  They refused to hear it and the appellate court ruling became Arizona law.

He is simply required to pay his share based on equal use.  During trial, he steadfastly told the Judge he shouldn’t have to pay anything like the lousy neighbor he is.  Even the judge remarked on this stubborn comment.

When he didn’t pay, I put liens on his property again.  He still didn’t pay. So I sold the judgment to a bill collection agency. They really went after him, requiring three pages of 32 items he had to produce about his earnings, property, income and all assets, anywhere.  That really scared him, so now he admits to wanting to pay because he’ll have to reveal all of his assets, personal income and wealth. Obviously he doesn’t want that to be known.

He knows exactly what he owes. It’s crystal clear…the original court judgment with interest.  He couldn’t pay $2,192 for a tortious interference conviction but he came up with $24,000.00 in flash when faced with being required to reveal all his assets…and I mean ALL of them in a court ordered debtors exam.

So much for his opaque assertion that he doesn’t know how much he owes.  He even denigrated the attorney for FDS Financial Services, Jack Wilenchik. Sorchych attacked Wilenchik years ago when Jack was on the Planning Commission in Cave Creek. Jack wanted to put Don’s Sonoran News out of business but left Cave Creek to get away from Sorchych. Another example of Don’s winning ways with people.

I’d say that’s a great idea!  What a nice Town this would be if the Sonoran News was gone. We can’t wait for it to happen. Perhaps the honorable Mr. Gilbert Lopez might just be the guy to do his civic duty once again and put Sorchych out of business.  Wouldn’t that be nice!

Thank you Lt. Col., Captain, and Vice Mayor Lopez!  Well done!
